DVD-X
+
Could you tell me how you got the HBB to update it self?--HUN73R /\/\. 03:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Does the DVD-X Installer download come with PatchMii so it can install the patchmii version for modchip users?  or is patchmii a seperate app you have to install altogether?
+
: It firstly connects to the internet and checks a text file which contains the file size of the boot.dol. If this file size doesn't match the size the user currently has then it prompts the user to update. Then it just downloads the new boot.dol and meta.xml files to the correct location. There is a download example here: Homebrew Browser#NetSend Example + HTTP Download Example
: PatchMii is a separate application for modchip users which can be found here: http://hackmii.com/2008/08/libdi-and-the-dvdx-installer/ --Teknecal 08:46, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Message Board
I quote this from the Homebrew Channel/Bugs page " but I prefer to leave my WiiConnect24 on, as I get messages from Nintendo and the Homebrew Browser, and I like to be notified when they arrive." Is it true that HBB gives out notices? If so I have yet to receive one. Pinball wizard 00:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

: Yes it's true but firstly you need to add hbb@codemii.com to your Wii address book. A few days later you'll get a confirmation email and then an email when applications have been updated. --Teknecal 08:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Suggestions/Comments
v0.3 Development
HBB needs a new interface. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1483/hbbv030prototypejx9.jpg. Any suggestions or comments? --Teknecal 14:16, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

: That looks pretty cool :) --Mjbauer95 19:01, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

:: I've made a new design with a bigger text size. You can see it here: http://www.gm-alex.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/homebrewbrowser.jpg I hope you like it and Teknecal will use it. GM_Alex

About page: http://www.codemii.com/hbbv03_about_test.dol. Are there any suggests or comments anyone has about this? --Teknecal 12:46, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

: I think thats good, but I guess you want to move the Download/Delete buttons into the About window - which would require two clicks to install/delete an app. Perhaps it would be possible to select multiple checkboxes in the Main Screen, and then press a Download (or Delete) button that appears below the list ? (Have a look at this mockup - this would download ftpii, wiidoom and scogger) --Alanceil 18:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Easy Access
Is it possible to make a channel of this for the system menu for easy access to the HBB. This way it could be like the Wii Shop Channel. Thanks! OJ

: The difficulty with this is extra code (not too difficult, mind) would have to be added in order for it not to crash if you forgot to insert the SD card. You can, of course, DIY by using a tool (can't remember what it's called <_<) available SOMEWHERE on the internet. --Lukegb 22:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

:: You won't see a channel version anytime soon, since there's no legal way to make a channel. The only channel code out there is Nintendo's code, and the Homebrew Channel's code, both of which the author's haven't given permission to use. All the channels you see out there use Nintendo's code, and this is copyright infringement. --Tantric 23:18, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Sponsors
This app is great but I know it must cost something to operate the servers and stuff. Did you ever think of getting sponsors to pay for these expenses and other hastles?

: It's hosted on a shared server for $10 USD a month. I haven't thought of sponsers as I just host other websites on the server as well. If you want to help cover the cost, you can always click the ads on codemii :P --Teknecal 05:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

:: Are there ads? I don't see any. --Mjbauer95 19:02, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

::: Oh right, it should have been but I updated Wordpress and I must of forgotten to add them again. Added --Teknecal 06:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Better info storing
Right now the way info on files are stored is through images. This seems like the server would waste a lot of time just sending the headers and stuff so instead if it just sent text containing all the stuff it would probably speed stuff up. I know you probably did this because it seemed simple but if you could just add think about this it would be great :) --Mjbauer95 03:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

: Yeah, this would be on of the things that's planned for v0.3.x release. When it will be out I'm not sure as I haven't had a chance to begin the coding. --Teknecal 05:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Just Install
A few apps like DVDx just require you to run them once- would it be possible to distinguish these from "real apps". I don't know if it's possible to run an app in an app but if it is I think this could be a good feature. --Mjbauer95 03:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Text Size Etc.
I love this app! I don't know what I would do without it. However, I don't have a very big TV and also have poor eyesight. Is it possible to make the text in the browser a little bit bigger? Thanks. Quixada1

: Screen space is at a premium. Consider getting rid of the bar beneath each app box (w/ the buttons), and just having the pictures. Then when you click on an app picture, it overlays a window (like the one for controls & info) that lets you see info, download, etc. Then you could make the category toolbar larger. I have a 130" screen and I still find the fonts a little small! --Tantric 08:20, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

About section for each app
I was thinking about doing an about pop up for each application but doing that might take too long as it would have to been done for each application... unless people would like to help out? Might need to remove the applications picture so a better description can be added. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1771/winaboutci7.png What are people's thoughts on this? --Teknecal 14:03, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

:Keep the current pictures, but when the user clicks on the about button for an application it would be cool if it had the same function as when you click on a program in the Homebrew Channel where a window pops up over the screen and has all the program information, but you could replace it with whatever stats you want.  That is how I foresee it working. --Spnorth 14:42, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

::Still working on this or need more suggestions on implementation? --Spnorth 15:37, 4 November 2008

::: Haven't worked on it, don't have much time as other things on the HBB came up. --Teknecal 02:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Stats
Awesome App! But i think maybe you should add some stats (most downloaded) to get some competition going in Homebrew Development :)<small>—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjbauer95 (talk • contribs) 07:37, 30 June 2008 (CEST)</small>

: Statistics sound good. Where should these statistics be available? Should it be in HBB or just on a webpage? --Teknecal 18:52, 3 July 2008 (CEST)

:: I was thinking more in the HB --Mjbauer95 21:22, 3 July 2008 (CEST)

Current Stats of HBB downloads

Ratings
It would be a great feature to be able to rate the homebrew games. I don't know if would work without too much work, but I had some ideas: You can only rate downloaded games and you can change your rating whenever you want. Of course, you would be able to sort by rating.

I know, it would be much work and it seems pretty useless, but I think there are already (or soon) over 100 homebrew games online and you don't know what you should download when you first launch Homebrew Browser. Sorry for my broken English... :/ --Elgamblo 18:57, 18 July 2008 (CEST)

: Ratings -> could work, with the help of a server side programming language. Changing your rating... ummm... that is going to be quite difficult, since IPs change, and so on. Short of finding an unique individual Wii ID, that is... --Lukegb 16:15, 21 July 2008 (CEST)

:: Yes, but it should be possible to get the Serial Number. When I buy something in Wii Shop Channel with the Credit Card, it shows the Serial Number. --Elgamblo 16:18, 21 July 2008 (CEST)

::: OK - calling ES_GetDeviceID() should get a Wii-unique device code. --Lukegb 17:58, 25 July 2008 (CEST)

Peripheral Images
Maybe you could add the controls used by the application (wiimote/gamecube/etc.) just like on the wiibrew article sites?

: Please explain this further. --Teknecal 10:56, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

::OP wants homebrew apps/Peripheral info included inside HBB. Personally, I would like some notification if some non-standard hardware (balance board, GC controller, etc) is required to use the homebrew. Felix 13:21, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

::: Ah I see, good idea. I'll put it in the next HBB release. --Teknecal 13:43, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

:::: I couldn't put it in because there was too many little icons to fit in the "channel". Maybe when I use a bigger about window it could be added there. --Teknecal 01:56, 13 August 2008 (CEST)

Great, thanks! That was exactly what I meant! --DigDug 14:43, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

Color Blind - Different Icons for Installed/Update Available
Instead of having a blue or green (I think) check-mark for installed apps and apps with updates available, would it be possible to have different icons such as a check and a cross? This isn't a cosmetic niggle, I'm red/green colour blind (as are approx 1 in 10 men) and against the white background I find it almost impossible to tell if I have the latest version of an application at a glance.

--Neversoft 19:23, 7 August 2008 (CEST)

: When LowLines did the design he did have a cross to mark applications that don't have updates, but as the cross is universally recognized as "something is wrong", I asked him to just make the blue tick. ===Background Downloading===

Right now the downloads are fairly slow. I don't know if this is a limitation of the Wii or of your servers, but either way it would be nice if you could still browse the homebrew and queue things for download while something is downloading. If things were queued it would be nice if there was a separate download section.

I am currently using a Wii with 3.2 firmware, and homebrew channel beta 8.  I have installed and gotten plenty of apps to work fine, however I have never been able to get this application to work.  It just says that it cant initialize with the network.  Opera works fine, weather channel, wii connect 24, and the Homebrew channel had updated automatically when I installed beta 7.  Is there are a port you would recommend opening up on my router to try and solve this issue.  I have a feeling my routers firewall is blocking itIts an actiontec wifi router that comes standard with verizon fios.
+
For example the game Alien Breed downloads but is not stored and the ‘download’ button is still available after two attempts.  The Game date is 1970 and so last in the list! The download counter also reads 'ws' and not the expected '0' zero - so maybe one or both of these things break the normal install route. --Titmouse 21:48, 2 December 2010 (CET)

So i use the wii's built in wifi, with automatic configuration on a WEP key.  I believe its 64 bit WEP, but it may be 128 bit.  I can check when I get home.  I will try disabling it though when I get home and see if that changes anything. --DaveyDucati 14:53, 22 July 2008 (EST)

::So I resolved the problem by placing my wii in a DMZ in the routers settings.  I also noticed that the homebrew channel doesn't connect to the internet unless the wii is in the DMZ as well.  For some reason my firewall doesn't play nice with homebrew.  I can try to email you a log of my firewall activity if you like. --DaveyDucati 20:16 22 July 2008 EST

::It appears that after one successfuly connection, I could not log in again.  I Switched to WPA on my wifi, and I did get it to work, but i dont know if thats just one time because it involved resetting my router.  I will do more testing tonight.  If the wii is in the DMZ though it cant be a firewall issue.  I would keep it on WPA, but not all wifi devices in my house support it. --DaveyDucati 09:16 23 July 2008 EST

::The other case I had heard of got resolved, and it was also a case of using automatic configuration (AOSS). He changed from that to a manual configuration and it began working. --ProdigySim 07:31, 24 July 2008 (CEST)

On my Wii, I've only got it to work 5 out of around 40 tries.  WEP, WPA (AES), or no encryption doesn't seem to really matter.  Could a retry button be added to Homebrew Browser when the network fails to initialize, instead of immediately exiting?  In the Homebrew Channel, if I repeatedly retry connection, it works about the 2nd or 3rd time.  I'm using IOS36 with the latest (0.2.5) Homebrew Browser and and Homebrew Channel (1.0.1). --digitalcircuit36939 12:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I found a minor bug that you could fix in 0.3.9.
: What kind of collaboration are you looking for? You are probably looking for some sort kind of a http library for C. I can help you out if you need help with how the HBB system works, the application listing file and directory structure, etc. Keep in mind that I don't have a mac. You can contact me on teknecal@gmail.com or at #wiidev on EFnet. --Teknecal 11:06, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

If you add an app to queue then open up the "Download/Delete Queue" page, the app you selected will be there. But if you delete it from the list (By pressing -) and open the Download/Delete Queue page again, the name and short description will still be there, but not the icon. Again a very minor bug, but one that should be fixed.

I also use a USB-HDD with a FAT32 on the 1st partition, with no SD Card whatsoever (my card slot is defective), and I noticed that HBB takes several minutes to update all the app icons. On a friend's Wii, I could see that this process takes only a few seconds, but unlike me, his HBB is in his SD Card. This has been like this since the days of HBB 0.3.5, and as of HBB 0.3.8, it hasn't changed. Nothing works at all as of today (7 November 2010). Doesn't function properly on 2 different Wii's, writing to SD or to USB drive. :::One other note, the HBB seems to scan the VFAT partition on my USB hard drive before it does anything. I've got thousands of files on it so it takes a LONG time. It would be great if this "feature" could be turned off. HBB ought to just snoop around the apps tree and nothing else. Dashxdr 20:14, 8 November 2010 (CET)
 +
:::: I think it's because of the free space function as it uses statvfs("usb:/",&fiData) to get the block size, blocks free and blocks total. You can turn this off in Settings -> Show SD card space & Check free space. Just to confirm does this happens when HBB first loads the GUI? Let me know if turning off those settings helps? Also is there a quicker way than using statvfs? --Teknecal 10:50, 9 November 2010 (CET)

:::You're right, turning off the check free space + show free space fixes the long pause when the HBB is first launched. Questions

Could you tell me how you got the HBB to update it self?--HUN73R /\/\. 03:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

It firstly connects to the internet and checks a text file which contains the file size of the boot.dol. If this file size doesn't match the size the user currently has then it prompts the user to update. Then it just downloads the new boot.dol and meta.xml files to the correct location. There is a download example here: Homebrew Browser#NetSend Example + HTTP Download Example

I have used this program successfully many time launched from the SD card. I now wish to move my HomeBrew to my USB Drive. My first attempt was to have a WBFS partition fist with a Fat32 second on the Drive. That did not work so I tried moving the Fat32 to the first partition. That started to work but each time I Download an App the Wii crashes with a Stack Dump... Can this app run from a Fat32 partition of a USB Drive? Secondly with the WBFS as the second partition my WiiFlow USB loader would not see my files. But that is for another PAGE.--capple123 02:10, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Homebrew Browser Channel

I haven't done much lately with this but now I have a working compiler again so the installer is getting closer. The channel on the other hand is killing me. I am stuck with getting weird debug info like HBB used to give. Any help on how to read those Teknecal? Pinball wizard 01:19, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Does it say like debug [1] Not owner? I think that the fix is to format the SD card. --Teknecal 13:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
It isn't debug info I put it wrong. I meant to say Code Dumps. It looks to be all hex code. Check your pms too. Pinball wizard 19:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
The installer is getting closer. I have all the code checking out okay but I think that my development environment is having problems. Closer now though. Still have the channel issues. Hoping to maybe release before I die, lol. Pinball wizard 19:35, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm now doing debugging on the installer. If I can figure the channel issue out and approval from Teknecal, I should release soon.*@Teknecal, The issue with the channel is that it shows the kind of code dump as what you have at the end of your 1 year anniversary video. I am going to add in some debug code to see if it is the channel launch code or HBB code. Do you know what IOS HBB runs on? Pinball wizard 20:39, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm cleaning up code for the installer now, commenting out debug info and about to lock down the installer to the final channel pieces now instead of anything you want. I need to put some placeholder logo spots and finish recoding the code for the channel. I have a list of testers and should be ready to beta test in a week. @Teknecal, Don't worry about anything with your app just yet. I think I found the issue in the channel launching check your pms for details on it. After beta tests I will shoot you up for approval and I should have release 1.0 out very soon. Pinball wizard 02:48, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

What's up with this? I'd love to have this as a channel, it'd save a step. Dashxdr 03:59, 13 October 2010 (CEST)

Search

Umh... There is so many apps available, and no search. Search would be really useful! --Error 14:17, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

I'll do something like searching by letter, e.g. A, B, C will bring you directly to those applications. --Teknecal 04:55, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Better distinguish between downloaded/HBB apps

It would be possible, meta.xml being an xml file, to insert extra fields into it, without too many things exploding, surely. For instance, it could be possible to insert some hbb specific fields, for instance: <hbb:repository>lukegb</hbb:repository> <hbb:downloaded>true</hbb:downloaded> <hbb:lastversion>xyzabc</hbb:lastversion>

Update all apps

There should be an option to update all apps, and perhaps also an option to turn off the Wii afterwards. This way I can hit the button and go to bed with no worries.--SkiDragon 13:00, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Let me know if there are any issues and also let me know if you have a >4GB device and if HBB picks up the right amount of free space. --Teknecal 01:28, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
How come some themes don't show up in the repository? --Abeckring 04:39, 2 September 2010 (CEST)
I just have to add the rest that were added to WiiBrew since about 1-2 weeks ago which I'll do in the next day or so. --Teknecal 10:35, 2 September 2010 (CEST)
Is there any possibility of putting themes in that aren't allowed on wiibrew? --Abeckring 23:34, 11 September 2010 (CEST)
No, probably not. --bg4545 01:42, 12 September 2010 (CEST)
Probably! Randomdude 05:04, 21 October 2010 (CEST)

HBB Themes

For the next version you should add theming, just like what the HBC has. It would be cool to have a custom HBB. --Abeckring 23:39, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

File Size Adjustment?

Somehow this always confuses me but before I download Homebrew it tells me the size of the Homebrew app and then when I download it, it tells me the download is smaller than what I saw previously. I then figured out that the download is zipped and the file size in the description is the extracted size. Maybe use this format in the description instead? "1.0MB (0.59MB Zipped)" --Wildgoosespeeder 23:48, 4 January 2011 (CET)

Translation

What about make HBB translatable? I could translate it in Italian or in Esperanto... ----→ Airon Ĉ 16:51, 13 August 2011 (CEST)

Is it possible to divide games by type, in order to make the list smaller? It is impossible to scroll all that list! ----→ Airon Ĉ 16:51, 13 August 2011 (CEST)

jump n' bump not installing correctly OPEN

application says it's done when it's completed downloading but when I look in the installed app section or through the app list it says it has not it also does not show up in the homebrew channel. Popman 12:01, 22 May 2011 (CEST) discovered source of error boot.dol downloads with the name BOOT.DOL and so is not detected.

immediately shows download button after attempting to install. checked boot.dol and it comes up as 0 bytes! -- Konna280 21:42, 16 January 2012 (CET)

Game downloads but not installed RECEIVED

For example the game Alien Breed downloads but is not stored and the ‘download’ button is still available after two attempts. The Game date is 1970 and so last in the list! The download counter also reads 'ws' and not the expected '0' zero - so maybe one or both of these things break the normal install route. --Titmouse 21:48, 2 December 2010 (CET)

Should be fixed now. --Teknecal 09:52, 3 December 2010 (CET)

Can you ping codemii.com from your PC in the same network? -Charlatan 01:09, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm having the exact same issue. www.codemii.com is accessible from my laptop, but not from the Homebrew Browser. Thinusp 08:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Can you try using a different DNS server in your Wii settings? --Teknecal 13:39, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Error Codes OPEN

Probably not the right section, but I keep getting the error codes -81, -27 and -22, could a list be made so that users can identify their meaning? --ColdPerson 14:17, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Corrupted Icon Image OPEN

The image on NewoShooter 1.26 crashes the homebrew browser when I select it from the list. When selected the image appears corrupted under the game title, then the application locks up. I'm not sure if its because I created it with microsoft paint in windows Vista. I have the latest version of HBB and 4.3 install on my normal wii. Owen 02:04, 16 January 2011 (CET)

The image seems ok it's just URL text goes over the buffer I had set, I've corrected it now, it should be fixed in 1-2 days (because of server cache). --Teknecal 14:18, 17 January 2011 (CET)

Queue Bug? RECEIVED

I found a minor bug that you could fix in 0.3.9. Keep up the good work!--Jrcolonial98 19:30, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

USB-HDD works, but icon download is extremely slow compared to SD RECEIVED

I also use a USB-HDD with a FAT32 on the 1st partition, with no SD Card whatsoever (my card slot is defective), and I noticed that HBB takes several minutes to update all the app icons. On a friend's Wii, I could see that this process takes only a few seconds, but unlike me, his HBB is in his SD Card. This has been like this since the days of HBB 0.3.5, and as of HBB 0.3.8, it hasn't changed. In spite of this, HBB works as expected, and code dumps are rare, but do occur, occasionally. --Friiloader 23:53, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

I wonder if v0.3.9a is better now? Teknecal 09:44, 31 October 2010 (CET)

Hangs at Parsing Homebrew List RECEIVED

Any time I try to use a repo other than codemii it hangs at Parsing Homebrew List. If I hit 2 it says "Reverting to CodeMii.com repository." but hangs there. I've tried all of the repos at least 5 times, every time changing the settings back manually, or just replacing the folder in app entirely. One time Lukegb's loaded fine, I didn't do anything different. 4068401 21:50, 3 October 2010 (CEST)

I've removed the 2 non-working repos. Teknecal 09:44, 31 October 2010 (CET)

I can't get the HBB to work! RECEIVED

When I load the HBB app everything works except that when I click 'Download' it just freezes and nothinhg happends. How do i fix this? --Boondox 23:02, 1 September 2010 (CEST)

Can you try removing all other controllers apart from the Wiimote and remove any USB devices you might have? If that doesn't work, can you try and format you SD card after you back it up? --Teknecal 10:41, 2 September 2010 (CEST)

Something Horribly Wrong

Nothing works at all as of today (7 November 2010). Doesn't function properly on 2 different Wii's, writing to SD or to USB drive. Updates seem to be coming from an incorrect server and are out of date, and don't even extract properly. Functionality utterly broken at the moment. Dashxdr 18:29, 7 November 2010 (CET)

Not sure what the underlying cause is. When I try to update Pacman through the HBB it installs 1.01, not the latest 1.03. Dashxdr 22:12, 7 November 2010 (CET)
Seems like pacman was under the folder "Pacman", I changed it back and it should work now. --Teknecal 09:51, 8 November 2010 (CET)
That fixed it, thanks. Was the issue on my end? When I upload a new zipfile, should the directory be named "pacman" and not "Pacman"? Anyway feel free to delete this entire incident from this talk page. Dashxdr 13:41, 8 November 2010 (CET)
The issue was on our server. In this case, yep you should zip it up as "pacman" but I'll always double check folders from now on. --Teknecal 10:50, 9 November 2010 (CET)
One other note, the HBB seems to scan the VFAT partition on my USB hard drive before it does anything. I've got thousands of files on it so it takes a LONG time. It would be great if this "feature" could be turned off. HBB ought to just snoop around the apps tree and nothing else. Dashxdr 20:14, 8 November 2010 (CET)
I think it's because of the free space function as it uses statvfs("usb:/",&fiData) to get the block size, blocks free and blocks total. You can turn this off in Settings -> Show SD card space & Check free space. Just to confirm does this happens when HBB first loads the GUI? Let me know if turning off those settings helps? Also is there a quicker way than using statvfs? --Teknecal 10:50, 9 November 2010 (CET)
You're right, turning off the check free space + show free space fixes the long pause when the HBB is first launched. But still for some reason there is a long delay during the extraction of any downloaded app, no matter how small. I'm just using a USB hard drive, there is no SD card installed at all. Mod file is not played

In the last release (0.3.9e) the loop.mod file is not played. The mod support seems broken. Ogg files are instead played. Oibaf 01:00, 5 December 2014 (CET)
