Muzer, I have two questions. 1: To the best of your knowledge, will installing this have any problems going forward? For example, let's say another patch issue comes up a few months from now. If I install this, do you foresee any issues in the future? 2: A few users on other websites report losing access to their homebrew apps after running the patch, things like programs sitting at 'Waiting...' forever. Do you have any idea what might cause this? I'm running an NTSC Wii on Menu 3.2U and am concerned about what to do to both maintain standard functionality in my Wii, plus homebrew. These reports trouble me, so I'm holding off on running your patch (I currently have v2 sitting on an SD card, awaiting use). Is there anything you can tell me to address these worries? GespenstM 22:41, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I used tona's, and it works as it should, thanks! --AceAlabama 21:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

the .xml file says it installs ios5. what is the reason for this? yossi 21:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

The person who made the XML, Matthew_8, fails. Muzer 21:13, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

I have ntsc 3.2U firmware. Will this also update my firmware to 3.3U?--Arikado 21:28, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

No. Muzer 21:40, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Maybe a silly question, but is there any difference between the functionality/quality between the patchmii-updaters and Tona's single-file alternative? Which would be "better", so to speak? Maybe it's still too early to expect much... But I wonder which one the Wiibrew community will use as the main solution. --NikoKun 23:40, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Tona's one didn't work for a few people, mine has worked for everyone who tried it. Also, mine doesn't touch IOS51, tona's one applies some random patch which really is no use. Finally, tona's one is a bit easier because it's only one file, whereas mine is two (though you don't brick if you only run one, you can temporarily put the wii shop channel out of action if you install the Wii Shop Channel and not IOS51, but you can just easily fix that by installing IOS51 from my package). Muzer 23:43, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see, thanks for the explanation. So I take it then (duh, obviously) that both methods allow the fakesign bug (and NAND access) to continue to be used? --NikoKun 23:52, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Of course, otherwise the apps would be pointless :p Muzer 00:05, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I ran both, they both seemed to install fine, but when I go to the shop channel after it's done, it just loads for a few seconds then boots me back to the menu.

That points towards IOS51 not being present. Try booting the IOS51 installer again. Muzer 00:24, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
That did the trick, thanks!

Installation on my Wii using my Ethernet adapter went flawlessly, but using the same package on my girlfriend's Wii didn't work; it either crashed or gave an error message before returning to the HBC. Using my adapter on her console solved the problem, though. Just making a note about that in case it helps other people. SMR Kurosan 03:04, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

So wait, does this remove the fakesigning patch on IOS51, or is it still on there? Yaanu 04:06, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

So ermmm, lets say I was a little too hasty in installing the update, is there pretty much no way back? I mean I've got HBC and all that so I guess it shouldn't be too bad... But do you think there's a chance there could be a fix for it in the future, or it that not even possible? --Zemulii 04:58, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, marcan is brewing something up. Felix 06:44, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

His this just for NTSC systems? or also PAL? Xses

Ok, so let me get this straight...This is basically the newest Wii update, only without the coding that tries to disable unofficial installations? Or will it still be the same firmware version?Kiwisoup 09:38, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

On a simplified basis, what you said is pretty much true. That's a pretty simplified way of looking at it, though. Muzer 09:54, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I found out that the IOS51 installer is incompatible with YAOSM v3.0 If running v3.0 of the yaosm chip you need to update, i am assuming this is because of Patchmii? I used the Muzer v2.0 installer. No go with v3.0, works perfectly with v3.2 --Gleichmann 11:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Does Tona's contain the bug, which you fixed in your second release? And is it possibly that removing the signature hash check (as in - putting the fakesign bug into IOS51) may give certain future homebrew applications more features/access to that IOS? --NikoKun 19:06, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

His bug wasn't really a bug so much as "rush-to-release" syndrome. He just needed to do a clean compile, and he forgot to check the final binary himself. For your second question, it's possible, but that's about it. It's not really that likely that that will be the ONLY way to use the fakesign bug in the future. --Tona 21:53, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, btw your version worked just fine, no problems whatsoever.

I tried installing Muzers v2 and I keep on getting a code dump while trying to download the second part of 1os51. The shop installer doesn't even try... It starts the first piece and immediately brings me back the the HBC without any error message. I've tried tona's release as well with no luck. Any suggestions? thanks EDIT: Got ios51 installed with tona's installer after 1000 tries. However, I still have no luck with either installer for the shop channel.-- theBsharp

Tried about 50 times, all app versions, and I can't even get the first file to download. "http error" message immediately after the network initializes "OK". Apps like the Homebrew browser work fine, so my network can't be that bad. --Sven Viking 21:18, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

I installed both, but whenever I go to the Wii Shop Channel it asks me to accept terms and condition, but whenever I try to do that I get a system error. falcozx 8:36, November 2008 (UTC)

PAL console ?

2 Questions: Will this work on PAL consoles? and if I check for updates afterwards, will it tell me it's up to date (no blue light also)?

That reminds me, when a new game comes out that checks for the newest software and makes you install it if you don't have it before you can play the game...will this make it think it's up to date?Kiwisoup 10:31, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
I have a PAL console at 3.3E and used Muzer's installer (v2). I can use the shop channel. I have an NTSC disc of Crash - Mind Over Mutant which asks for me to perform an update. After installing this, it still asks to do an update :( Is there a good way around this? Grg 07:45, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Use Gecko OS to bypass it... or use Starfalls Update Blocker (unless you got a Wiikey2)--Drag0nflamez 13:00, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

i used the installen by tona, it worked like a charm, i can use the shopping channel again, no problems here (pal wii 3.1e) Bitflusher 11:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I did the noob version homebrew style... and later, (after they fixed the page) I could see that the noob version is v1 of the installer... What happens if I install v2? Should I install it? are there anythings wrong with v1 that affect my wii?--Goofster1020 15:09, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Worked perfectly on 3.2U! Thanks Muzer! Now I will be all ready for Guitar Hero: World Tour's DLC! theDuck 17:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

JAP console

Just wanted to say it works great on 3.2J. Thanks for releasing! --tsdmk 22:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Also works great on 3.3J. Japanese Shopping Channel working. --Yukky 02:02, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

changed

hope you don't mind, i edited the icon.png file and meta.xml so it its ios51, not ios5. I also changed the download link so you download it.

Mii channel update

Would it be possible to also to make an updater the Mii channel as well for those of us who still have 3.2(U)? (Great app by the way!) Stevey 03:13, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

mii too! i would like something like this very much. yossi 01:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

'Error making http request'

When running either Muzer's or Tona's IOS51 installer, the network apparently initializes OK, then I get an "Error making http request" message followed by "Failed to allocate temp buffer for encrypted content..." and it exits back to the Homebrew Channel. I have followed all instructions and have tried multiple times over the last few days. No GC or USB equipment plugged in. I'm using a wireless network, and other apps such as the Homebrew Browser can connect to the Internet without problems. Current firmware is 3.2E.

Assuming no fix is known, would it be possible for me to download the necessary files manually from Nintendo's servers and place them on my SD card? Thanks!

---

I have the exact same problem as above. It gets up to about part 7 of installing the shop channel, before saying "error making http request". The IOS51 installer worked fine. I've tried both versions, and unplugged all Gamecube gear. Updating over wireless.

Same problem here, 3.3E software, Musers and Toners dont work IOS51 AND shop, neither does the Mii channel updater. Network initializes ok, but then i get an "Error making http request" (or similar, differs a little between versions) but basically, it appears to be going to download the file from nintendo servers and cant connect. Im trying over wireless, which others have reported issues with. Homebrew browser/Internet chanel work fine. It'd be great to hear back from a dev, seems this is a fairly common problem. Perhaps i'll try to find em on irc. Hans.

Same problem for me. I assumed it was because there was not enough space on the SD card, and so cleared some space, but am still getting the same error. Does this program download to the SD card or the Wii memory to work with? Crundy 18:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Same Problem for me, with all of the different builds, it gets to part 02/18 of the shop content then "Error making http request" and it goes back to HBC. It even did a crash dump in one of my retries. I am using wireless (the access point is in the next room so its not signal related), the connection has a high latency but the download speed is fast enough to stream video so I doubt speed is the problem. Im downloading the source to see if I can find anything. I suspect some timeout/retry code is involved somewhere, but Im just guessing. --Llvanden 11:15, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

FIX I have increased the receive timeouts for both the Muzer's v2 installers. It seems to work now on my wii. I have increased it from 4000ms to 10000ms. I do not garuantee ANYTHING and I don't take any credit for this release since I only changed one number. A link to it can be found on the regular page, the 3rd item under Other releases. --Llvanden 14:06, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

FIX I had these problem with 3.2U, realized that my wifi router wasn't set to channel 11 as it should, also after reading a lot, i discovered that wii's internal wifi 802.11 card only operates in the 2412-2462GHz range. In 802.11b mode ONLY, so I decided to switch my settings in the router and it worked fine, I was able to download everything really fast. --Duarte fabian 16:09, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

WARNING

I should note that basically anything that requires more...in-depth...access does not work after updating with this, including Menu Loader, AnyTitle Deleter, etc. I don't know why this happened on one of the Wiis I tried this on, because the other Wii is fine. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 18:21, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Like I said you couldn't have missed the point more; these installer are for people who have not updated yet and will NOT update anytime in the near future. All apps should still work on a 3.2U (unless they are now downloading the wrong/new IOS's which should be easy to fix), and the menu loader should not be affected at all, even if you updated since (IIRC) it does not write anything to the wii's nand. Stevey 02:26, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's exactly what I did. I installed IOS51 and the new Shop Channel with this installer on two different Wiis. On one Wii, everything is as expected, and all apps work fine. On the other Wii, things that require more permission than normal (what's the term for that, anyway?) don't work anymore. I wouldn't have posted here if it was my own fault for updating the Wii from Nintendo. However, I should mention that both Wiis are 3.3U, not 3.2U. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 18:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
BTW, sorry if I offended anyone with my mention of you-know-whats earlier. I feel obligated to contribute what I can test back to the community. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 21:24, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Tona's installer works better

I just want to feedback that Tona's installer work without a hitch after getting so many errors with muzer's installer.

I only got muzer to update ios51, it always crashed doing the wii shop update, i tried so many times thinking my wii was bad, finally tried Tona's and it works on the first attempt.

Already Updated?

For users that have already run the update (or had stupid brother in laws who cant operate a router let nintendo autoupdate after changing wifi connections), I assume this would not be the solution. This update downloads and patches, then installes ios51, and then downloads and isntalled the updated shop channel correct? and the only thing patched out of ios51 is the fakesign fix (and the code to apply said fix to all previous IOS versions) correct? Will there be any code released to REINTRODUCE the signing bug to previous IOS versions? this way edited disc images and new channels could still be installed? or are the people who already updated totally screwed and should therefore pummel and subdue aforementioned brothers-in-law? Or, should the people who already updated just sit and wait patiently for BootMii to be released so we can have access to the NAND at a vry early boot stage and THEN code to re-instroduce fakesign bug into all previous IOS will be released. thank you very much for any answers to this longwinded request and our minimal flaming of an obvious idiot (yes, me.) --Palasx 00:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Shop Channel still reqesting an update

I used the wii shop channel updater, all went smooth but when i turn on wii shop channel, it says that i still need an update! What should I do? (<-- This comment was from Groovy 15:25, 3 January 2009. Please sign posts with ~~~~)

Are you sure it went through OK? On mine I have to keep an eye on it because if it gets an error when downloading one of the sections then it just goes back to the homebrew channel. I've managed to update IOS51 but have tried about 8 times now to get the shop channel to install. Crundy 22:49, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
In my case, muzer's shop installer locks up, but Tona's appears to complete (ie, I'm back at the HBC.) I watched really closely this time and everything downloads successfully (states "...Done") up through content 10/18. Either right after or during 11 it stopped, an error flashed on the screen quick, and it exited to the HBC.
It would really if the installer paused when there was an error (asking for Any Key) rather than just exiting. When it exits, one assumes it must have been successful. This thing takes long enough that few are going to actually sit and watch it go.Bobpaul 00:48, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
This time it said download complete, and began installing to to title 000100002-48414241. After it completed installing successfully it paused for me to press a key. Bobpaul 06:04, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
At my LEH-wii too... Just hold on/off 5 seconds and turn it on... Drag0nflamez 13:01, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Dial-up tricks

Okay, so the IOS51 update was pretty managable over 42kbps at about 2Mbyte, but from the Wiimpersonator report (http://wii.marcansoft.com/wiimpersonator/reports/20081023-031234.log) it looks like the shopping channel is about 25Mbytes - I guess I could leave it on for a few hours.

I figured out from Wiimperonator report that the 'HABA' is composed of the following files: http://nus.cdn.shop.wii.com/ccs/download/0001000248414241/tmd http://nus.cdn.shop.wii.com/ccs/download/0001000248414241/cetk http://nus.cdn.shop.wii.com/ccs/download/0001000248414241/00000047 //skip 16 files http://nus.cdn.shop.wii.com/ccs/download/0001000248414241/00000044

and I've DL them to a flash key at work.

Should I be able to hack a DNS server on my home WLAN to reply with my laptop's address and run a standard web server with that directory structure to get my Wii to update from it's web server instead?

Pretty cool stuff!

Please offer redirect if there is a better place to discuss this. Vladhed 17:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Removal

How easy it is to remove this patch and does the procedure require formating wii system memory or using specific homebrew tools?--Wiibrewfan4 06:33, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Muzer's package not working?

Hi, new user to the wiki, though long time user of Wii homebrew (bless you, Twilight Hack). I've just finished setting things up on my friend's 3.3U Wii, fresh from Gamestop.

So far, everything seems to work fine, IOS249 was installed just fine, only mentioning it in case it would somehow be a cause of problems here...

The problem is the ios51 and Wii shop updates are NOT working. After several attempts with Muzer's installers, both have finished installing, except the Wii Shop Channel is not loading. I have reinstalled IOS51, but the channel still refuses to load. I select it, I start it, screen fades to black, then immediately dumps me back out in the Wii Menu. Any idea what's going on here? I've attempted multiple reinstalls of both the IOS51 and shop update (Both of Muzer's packages) and nothing has worked. --ForteMP3, 16:53, 14 April 2009

UPDATE:Tried tona's package too, same result. Select Wii Shop Channel, click Start, I get dumped back to the Wii Menu. Wii Shop is completely broken.

I'm having the same problem as above - I am running system menu 3.4 on a new Wii, and didn't want to update to 4.0 so after installing the Homebrew Channel, I tried the Wii Shop and IOS51 installer (I first tried the one from tona and that didn't work (it failed during the installation), then tried the v2 from Muzer and it seemed to work, but now whenever I launch the Wii Shop Channel, it just does nothing for a few seconds and then takes me back to the main channel page. I've tried running the IOS51 update, then the Wii Shop update, and then launching the Wii Shop Channel, and then after that didn't work, tried running just the IOS51 update and then launching the Wii Shop Channel and still no go. Any help?? Thanks! --Mbressman 19:47, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
UPDATE/FIX: Search on here for WiiSCU - this did the trick for me (I updated IOS51 without Trucha bug, IOS61 without Trucha bug, and Shop Channel and it worked) --Mbressman 21:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Wii Shop channel returns to Wii Menu

I used the installer by tona to install IOS51 & the patch and Shop Channel, and when I try to load the shop channel, the Wii returns to the Wii System Menu. Also, the Homebrew Channel leaves the Wii on a black screen, forcing to turn off the Wii...

- (the above was written by someone else. I feel the need to state that because they did not sign their comment.) So both of these occurred right after you updated? Me too! I thought it was the fact that I updated the HBC that caused the blackout thereof, but the shop channel dying was obviously caused by the use of this HB application. Basically, our posts confirm each other - this updater caused both of our Wiis to lose functionality of two separate consoles. I have not updated my wii system via the official update since quite some time before they started implementing things that harm home brew. I have had no intention of ever updating my Wii again via the standard method. However, I am extremely dissatisfied with the results of using this product, and I feel it is an extreme issue that needs to be resolved by the creators of this app as soon as possible. --masterwriter42 10:45, 21 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding undated comment added 15:43, 21 July 2009 (UTC).

Mine did the same thing. Use WiSCU. Ninjafish1990 11:08, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Outdated Message Please?

Can we put a BIG message on the page for this app that it is outdated and people should use WiiSCU instead?--Arikado 14:24, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree. Just used WiiSCU to install IOS61 -Trucha and Wii Shop Channel and it is working fine. Also, is WiiSCU available on HBC? If not, it really should. Dipnlik 03:18, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
