Bugs?

Lag

It's an awesome app, it's everything I wanted. Imagine the possibilities... this might render games like Guitar Hero useless! The only thing I have issue with, at the present time, is that for some reason there's about 500msec of lag as compared to playing the same song in Frets on Fire. Is anyone else getting this? Otherwise, the only other things are cosmetic and if enough people chip in with their expertise we'll have a fantastic looking game. Psychade 18:37, 19 July 2008 (CEST)

yep got the same ;) it makes it harder to play!

I have the above bug and another one:Sometimes when the same note is being played repeatedly, the spacing between the notes is inacurrate. When the spacing between them is supposed to be equal the spacing is varied instead. This is definatly a problem with the program and not with the custom songs I am using since this happens with all the songs (even the ones ripped straight from Guitar Hero). I even checked the MIDI files of the songs and the repeating notes were evenly spaced, however sometimes in the game they weren't. I also tried the same songs in Frets on Fire and it didn't have this problem. Even note charts I made myself have this problem. --Ds342 19:22, 21 July 2008 (CEST)

Same problem here. According to page 37 on the spanish forum, the notes can only be shown in 100ms intervals. So notes set at non 100ms multiples will have the weird gaps. As for the lag, maybe a A/V delay like FoF would work? --Parag2k3 21:00, 29 July 2008 (CEST)

Please remember that some songs are made poorly, and were basically made with lag. I suggest finding a Guitar Hero/Frets on fire song editor, such as FeedBack[1], to see if the song may be part of the problem. Although, the game does start to mess up after a few seconds, maybe we'll see a fix in future versions.. --Zim 7/30/08

Does anyone know if version 3.0 fixes any of the lag problems? Kilroy 22:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the lag is different for each song. I don't know what makes the lag different, but it is around 0.2 seconds. I edited an FoF song and I got it to line up. I uploaded it to my server here: www.unseenirony.com/misc/fakeit200ms.zip. I would love it if we could test it out and see if it lines up with everyone. Do we even know if everyone has this problem? - Lexen (lexen1@gmail.com) 2008-11-24

I can confirm that version 3.5 doesn't resolve this issue. I've been experimenting with this for a while, and can confirm that inserting 0.2 seconds of silence into the start of each song element (ie. song.ogg, guitar.ogg, etc.) is a functional workaround for the lag issue. I use Sound Forge's Batch Converter to do this across multiple files, thereby avoiding having to adjust each file by hand. It seems, though, that songs which have a delay defined in song.ini require that to be taken into account also (ie. an amount of silence may need to be inserted or removed to compensate, haven't experimented with this aspect yet). DodgyReg 21:04, 1 December 2008 (UTC+10)

Not all songs are created equal, some require more silence then others. In fact, in one that I downloaded (Never Too Late, by Three Days Grace, it's on the FOF forum) the notes went too fast.

First thing I do is check the song.ini for a 'delay = [x]' line (I don't think guitarfun uses it) and adjust the ogg(s). For a positive value, delete [x] ms from the start of the ogg(s) - for negative: add [x] ms of silence. Then delete the 'delay = [x]' line. Now that I have a good baseline, make adjustments as needed. Usually need to insert 200 ms of silence and add 'delay = 200' to the song.ini (to keep it proper for FoF). If I need to delete some and there's not enough dead space before the song starts, then I use a MIDI editor to add time to the notes.mid (I use FL Studio... bit of a learning curve there). If the song is still messed up, the tempo in notes.mid could be set wrong. I haven't confirmed this, but I think guitarfun doesn't read MIDI properly - seems like it only uses the first tempo in the file header and ignores tempo changes... or maybe it just doesn't handle them well. I bet fixing the lag would probly be a (relatively) simple change in the source code too, just to add support for the song.ini delay. --trefrog 08:59, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Chords

It doesn't always seem to grab Chords from the Guitar Hero controller correctly, for example, when I'm pressing down Red+Green for a Chord, it'll sometimes only detect green and then lag (with just green of the chord working) before claiming a miss-note. --Navarr 20:13, 19 July 2008 (CEST)

Chords also register as 2 or more correct notes when hit. So hitting 5 double note chords would count as a 10 note streak. --Parag2k3 06:23, 2 August 2008 (CEST)

Game Freezes

After I boot up the game, and go to the song selection screen (in single player), the game freezes. I can't make selections, the music cuts out , etc. I can see the songs I added but it never seems to work. Any suggestions?--Anders776 18:35, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Maybe the song at the top of your list has a 'bad' ogg file. I had this problem with a couple of them. I just re-encoded the ogg. Re-encoding is also good to save space on your SD, like some oggs with max bitrate. Also, if song.ogg and guitar.ogg are exactly the same, you can delete the guitar.ogg. I don't think there's any difference. --trefrog 07:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed

Yes ,I have the same problems as listed above . There is about half a second lag and it sometimes screws up chords.Other than that ,great app. If there is a way to implement a guitar config to compensate the lag ,that would be great since its not properly useable yet with the lag --Robertfisk 20:16, 19 July 2008 (CEST)

Exiting Game

Also, I think it'd be great to have a function that lets you pause and exit the current song in the middle of it, instead of having to wait till the song's finished. Psychade 13:01, 21 July 2008 (CEST)

USB Guitar

Would it be possible in the future to make wired 360 guitars compatible, or would that be too much trouble? SMR Kurosan 07:18, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

Could it be made to work with the Wii Rock Band Controller? Chosen One 41 20:06, 5 August 2008 (CEST)

Password Issue

It also appears that the password for the forum section of FoF is wrong. SMR Kurosan 07:22, 30 July 2008 (CEST)

Yeah, some n00b changed it. Zim 2/8/08

Version 3.0

Looks like Hermes is stopping development after version 3.0 There seems to be some fixes to the lag and spacing between notes, though the problems still remain. --Parag2k3 06:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I tried to connect the Fender stratocaster (Rock Band) to play the game but it doesn't recognize. Does it have support to this kind of guitar ??

Yellow and Orange frets

On keyboards, they do not work together. Great app, but these non recognized chords should be number 1 to fix, with lag being second. I would also like to be able to map keys for keyboard. On Frets on Fire for PC, a couple chords didn't work with the F keys, so I mapped them to the number keys and it worked fine. Justing6 04:21, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Feature Request

  1. Fix lag
  2. Fix spacing
  3. Pick up chords correctly (green with another fret)
  4. Score chords correctly (count as multiple correct notes)
  5. Dvd storage
  6. Change speed of the neck according to the BPM of the song
  7. Have the horizontal lines on the neck represent beats (like GH, RB, FoF)
  8. Get rid of that horrible start up / menu music
  9. After completing a song or quitting during a song, return to the song selection menu
  10. Graphics improvement
  11. Support for more guitars (Rock Band or other systems)

I like the cheesy start up/menu music.... However, please get rid of the stupid annoying "KACHINK" sound that happens when the multiplier in the lower left changes.... It totally ruins the song constantly hearing that loud "KACHING!" all the time..... It's completely unnecessary. And how about adding support for the Classic Controller? If you turn it around so that it's facing the screen, it's like a tiny guitar! Your left fingers can cover the buttons (thumb = R shoulder button, index finger = a button, middle finger = x button, ring finger = y button, pinky finger = + button) and you can strum the left analog stick with your right thumb. I suppose the best option would be allowing configurable controls.... But definitely add support for Classic Controller. --Mr. Reaper 23:54, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Homebrew Browser Download

When I downloaded this game from the homebrew channel yesterday, I went to go play this game. I went to go click on single player and it wouldn't let me. Do you need a guitar or can you play with the wii remote?.

--Both appear in the options, but the game doesn't come with songs by default, which is why you can't play it "out of the box". SMR Kurosan 00:38, 31 July 2008 (CEST)

--Perhaps future releases should come with a few sample songs. For instance those three free songs that come with FoF. Psychade 07:22, 31 July 2008 (CEST)

--Seconded, otherwise the lack of default songs renders the inclusion of Guitar Fun on the Homebrew Launcher useless since the end user needs to transfer data (songs) from their computer anyway. SMR Kurosan 12:32, 31 July 2008 (CEST)

--they should put like song packs or whatever like they have for GH on the homebrew browser

Online Capabilities

Me and my friend can't get the online mode to work. We both have the same info inputted, etc. Is there a certain port I need to use? I know it's connecting to the internet on both sides. Any suggestions? --Cyndaquil 02:11, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

i have a pack1 folder and i have some songs in it and it says memory error, saving song... something. it's pretty fast, just a blip of the screen and it doesn't let me play.
