Inserting all the keyboard keys

I love the new UI, expect one thing. I went to enter in a samba share location, and noticed no underscore '_', this made it impossible to enter the share name. Had to insert it manually. Anyway the keyboard can have all the keys? --Piko

Just built the latest SVN version, I see all the keys now, thanks. --Piko

Alternative background menu

It's possible change the background? I could work in a new one if you want, drop me a mail with the specifications father_brain21@hotmail.com, I don't know how compilate, but I think it could be cool give a facelift to SNES9x. Thanks for this great emu.--TunaLover 08:15, 15 feb 2009 (UTC)

Is it possbile to add Hq3x display mode?

is hq3x mode to heavy for the Wii with SNES emulation and can it be implamented on snes9x gx? -Yod4z 23 september 2008 15:06 GMT+1

I'll give this a test, see if I can make it work and look decent. --Tantric 17:07, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for making this Wii emulator the best one ;) Yod4z 23 september 2008 22:12 GMT+1

Wiimote control

I remember that someone has made a version before that had different control for the wiimote. The "+" and "-" where use for "L" and "R", Home for "start" and you would access the Emulator menu with "Home" and "+" together. Basically, "select" was made by "Home" and "-". By doing could do everything with a simple wiimote !! I'd love to have this option with this version as well :) Very good job indead ! --Gerome 08:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

May be Tantric can add an option to map a SNES button to two Wimmote buttons, then you can map Home&+ for START and Home&- for SELECT. I think HOME must be the button to access to menu. --[User:Yod4z|Yod4z]] 23 september 2008 142:6 GMT+1

Smart Menu DPAD Orientation

When using the remote only, the DPAD orientation for the menu should be changed to reflect this. When using Remote+Classic or Remote+Nunchuk, the Dpad orientation for menu navigation should work with the remote orientation. The same applies for FCEU and VBA GX. This should really be worked into the GX code. I also have a hunch that the bug I listed above (re: nunchuk orientation) most likely applies to the other GX emulators as well. --Nago 22:01, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Only Show .SMC Files in file browser

Last time I tried it seemed that SNES 9X GX showed all files (including .nes files), this is not good for me because I have some .nes files in the same folder. So correct me if this is not true but can you add at least an option to only show .SMC files?

Settings after loading a game

The new overhaul of SNES9X GX is brilliant, but despite all its improvements one feature is now seemingly inaccessible. It used to be possible to pause a game by accessing the emulator menu in order to tweak settings. Now, changing video settings, for instance, is impossible without having to exit the game if one was loaded. Unless that was an intentional change to avoid bugs, would it be possible to correct that problem in a future update? SMR Kurosan 11:58, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

This is intentional, as I really can't understand needing to constantly change the settings in-game, after having set them up once. --Tantric 15:18, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
True, you wouldn't normally need to access those settings after they've already been set, but updating meant that my preferences were reset and needed to be modified again. I took that occasion to check out the new HQ2X modes and compare them along with the different variations of filters. Of course, while that was a little annoying, I don't need to mess with those again until a new version comes out, so it's not a big problem. SMR Kurosan 00:14, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree that it's annoying. I wanted to play with the video settings then go back to the game to see what it looked like, but the game has to be reloaded every time..... The HQ setting made the frame rate too choppy in the game I tried. And it's too much of a hassle to try it in many other games, having to reload the game each time.... Oh, also, there's the same issue if you want to reconfigure the buttons while playing a game....
The new menu looks really nice, and saving & loading is much better, but Holy Bloat, Batman! The size of the download alone went from around 1 meg, to 4 1/2 megs! --Mr. Reaper 23:48, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Having to exit each game when you want to change something, like the button configuration, can be extremely annoying. Since I am unfamiliar with the SNES-pad, setting the controls up for a game like Smash TV takes several minutes of trial and error since you need to restart the game every time! --Mekuso

Thanks for fixing this issue. It's much more convenient now to have the Controllers and Video Options menus available in the Game Menu instead of the Main Menu. --Mr. Reaper 18:31, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Seconded; I appreciate that you took the time to change that for us as well as anyone else that used to be inconvenienced by that problem. Thank you, Tantric! SMR Kurosan 10:21, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Button Mapping Graphic

Ya know, I would find it really useful to have an image of the SNES control pad shown on the buton configuration screen, with labls on the buttons to show which one is X, Y, A, B, etc., since I'm not that familiar with the SNES pad.... So when it's asking what button I want to use for Y, I'm not sure where that button is normally positioned.... --Mr. Reaper 23:53, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

The layout of the classic controller is a lot like the old SNES controllers. All of the SNES buttons are on it and are basically in the same possitions. The start and select buttons are in a different shape and are probably a little higher than they are on an old SNES controller, but it is pretty accurate. If you are using a classic controller, just use the matching button on it.--Ness and Sonic 21:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Slow Down

I will admit, this is a very impressive emulator. The one feature that I believe to be missing is the ability to slow down. It is useful for games where timing is important (such as Super Mario RPG). Is there any chance this could be part of a new version?--Ness and Sonic 21:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

If i remember my Super Mario RPG, that game had slow down on the SNES itself Only1gameguru 06:38, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

MP3 Support

Is it possible to add MP3 music player support? Beegee7730 14:39, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

For in the menu? Yes it is, but this sounds like just another potential source of issue reports. First of all, the MP3 player in libogc is somewhat unstable, and secondly, only 32khz and 48khz mp3 files would work. --Tantric 16:20, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh ok, Thanks. Beegee7730 17:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

USB Gamepad Support

Hi! Is it possible to use USB Gamepad for playing emulated games in Snes9x GX? And if it isn't possible now, is it possible, that it will be possible after some time? :) Popoffka 16:03, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

DS as controller

Yes, i'm crazy %) May be it's even possible to use DS as controller? --Popoffka 13:11, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Don't rename Auto saves

Most emulators automatically load save files with the exact same name as the ROM file, what's with adding "Auto" to the file name? I have a portable emulator on the SD card so I can take the SD card with me and play my games on my laptop, but I have to rename my save files every time I go back and forth. It should just auto load a save file with the exact name. Actually, VBAgx and FCEUgx do the same thing, so perhaps it's all the gx ports? -qwertymodo —Preceding undated comment added 19:20, 15 September 2009 (UTC).

WiFi/SMB reliability

When the app starts, if the network fails to init, it gives "Retry" prompts (but it often doesn't tries to init again (seems to fail mostly if it does), just tries to read the dir over and over). A "Cancel" button next to the "Retry" and "Check Settings" might be good, or have the home button exit with a prompt when in the main menu, or have an exit button that can't hide - otherwise it's impossible to reach the exit without changing the "Load Device" to SD while having a network issue. Also once when loading a ROM, the network had a hiccup (or something) and the GUI faded but the progress bar never appeared. Maybe a network timeout would be an easy fix here? (My WiFi is pretty robust, at least for now. I just changed the channel and did a marathon ping test.)

Also how about this?... when changing dirs, if the list fails for whatever reason (permissions, invalid dir, network/SMB err), make an attempt to list the previous dir, to help avoid the retry loop & changed "Load Folder" in settings (which continues to fail).

Maybe there's a "bigger picture" solution to make file ops + networking fail more gracefully (at the least)... rather than focusing on single issues, because well honestly I feel this is the flakiest feature in an otherwise awesome app! --trefrog 11:19, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Support for longer hostnames

I was having trouble setting up my SMB share using a dynamic dns hostname, but it seems the problem was due to the length of the hostname, rather than lack of support for hostnames in general. It seems the length is limited to 20 characters. Can this limit be raised? My hostname is 24 characters, but I would think it wouldn't be unreasonable to have something like a 50-100 character limit, rather than 20. I would assume the issue is the same with FCEUgx and VBAgx as well.--Qwertymodo 20:53, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Lowpass Filter for Audio

Add a lowpass filter to the audio. There are a lot of undesirable high-frequency harmonics to the sound that need to be eliminated. Robobot 18:53, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Help

USB thumbdrive

Fat32 formatted 8gb thumbdrive from Transcend is not working under Snes9x GX v005, but will read fine from MPlayer. Is this something known already? Alkivar 01:16, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Some devices don't work. --Tantric 06:33, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Can't load from DVD-R using 7z archives

I burned my SNES ROM archive to DVD-R using 7z Archives with ROMs for E,U,J inside. Some ROMs say "Out of memory" when loaded, some of them load, but the game doesn't start. The filesystem on the disc is shown, but none of the ROMs on the Disc worked. For burning I used Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008 under Windows Vista. My tree looks that way:

- DVD

    |- ROMS
          |- SMW.7z
          |- [...]
    |- EMULATORS
          |- [...]

Snes9xGx is loaded from SD through the Homebrew Channel. The DVD sizes 1,6 GB. Is there any solution to my problem? 19th Oct 2008 12:00 GMT+1

Check your dictionary size setting on 7z compression. --Tantric 06:33, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Best compression settings

I try to build 7zip-archives with multiple ROMs in them. What are the best compression settings (dictionary size) and how many ROMs can I put into one archive before it doesn't work anymore. I found out that more than ~55 files in one ZIP will crash SNES GX. Is that a hard limit? Lockhool 10:23, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

There's limited memory on the Wii and also the 7z code probably isn't optimal. Yes, there's a limit. No idea where that exact limit is. --Tantric 16:47, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

GCN Controller problem

When I use the GCN controller with Snes9x 4.0.1, Y, X, L and R buttons launch me to the options screen during gameplay --TunaLover 13:53, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I broke this. And I haven't released the fix yet. --Tantric 00:37, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Original rendering broken

For some reason, selecting Original as the rendering method and coupling it with no filtering option seems to squish the picture heavily; I could be wrong, but I believe that only half of the scanlines are showing. Of note is the fact that the picture goes back to its full size in the Home menu. Unfiltered causes a jumpy picture on my TV and Filtered is more blurry, so Original has always been my preference until now. I noticed that this problem was in the latest FCEU GX update and it seems to have made its way into SNES9X GX 4.0.1, yet wasn't in 4.0.0; I hope that information helps. SMR Kurosan 09:14, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes I'm aware of this already, thanks. --Tantric 16:46, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

SFC file format works?

This isn't really something I need help with, but I figured this was the best place to put this.

It says the only SMC or FIG format work, yet I've played a rom in SFC format and it worked great. Is this a mistake, or did I just get lucky? --Munnyz 00:39, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Nah, it was just missing from the list. --Tantric 02:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

This emu is awesome, just a couple of quirks

When playing a game, navigating the menu is a pain if you use a control stick, it is just way to sensitive. Anyone else notice this? Additionally, when you set the save to snapshot, when you go to the menu it asks if you want to save the current screen as a snapshot, and the cursor is on yes. PLEASE don't prompt to save right away, or at least make the default no. I recently went to the menu to load a previous snapshot since I had lost with no lives left, but out of excitement I pressed A too many times and saved it right there, I then had to do over a LOT of levels that took me a long time to beat on donkey kong country 2

Speed

I noticed a few games don't run at full speed. (With version 4.1.2) This kinda surprises me, as the Wii should be strong enough to handle snes. I think "Tales of Phantasia" is the game at which the slowdown is most noticeable, but I think a few others (Shadowrun?) don't run at full speed as well. Any idea what is causing that? --Daid 14:23, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Visual bug

Seems like something broke between a few versions, I had an old version (with the old UI) which ran "Secret of Mana" fine, but the latested version has the first main menu messed up. --Daid 14:23, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Classic Controller Pro support?

Original "Classic Controller" is supported but when using the new "Classic Controller Pro" the analogs don't work. I noticed they don't work for many apps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CPS (talkcontribs) 11:49, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, they don't seem to be working for this and many other HB apps. Why would that be...? Q-pa 13:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

USB Loader

Is it possible to load and save games from a USB drive that all ready has them on it? If no, that'd really be a great support! ^^ Only1gameguru 06:34, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
