Discussions from Template talk:WiimotePointing

What's the best name for this template? Wiimote targeting? Shooting? While most games that would use this are shooting games, some aren't - like SNES mouse support. But I'm not sure if 'wiimote targeting' will be clear enough. Perhaps 'Wiimote aiming'?

There's already a button template called "Wiimote Aim". This is technically supposed to be indicating a peripheral, so the name has to be something to do with the Infra Red camera and/or the inaccurately titled "sensor bar" (infrared LED bar).
Infrared, I.R., Sensor, Bar, Camera, L.E.D., Relative, Position, Targeting, Aiming, Cursor.

Question

I don't understand this peripheral. Could I have more info or examples. Are USB Mouse supported by homebrew now? --Crayon 18:09, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

This is for apps that support wiimote infrared (ie: pointing support). An example is FCE Ultra GX, which you can play duck hunt using the wiimote for aiming/shooting. Another example is Snes9x GX, which lets you play Mario Paint using the wiimote for pointing/clicking. This is distinct from Wiimote support, because that may only imply using the buttons, not the IR. This is distinct from Wii Zapper support because apps might: a.) not use the nunchuck as part of the control scheme. b.) use alternate control schemes, such as (but not limited to) Wiimote A Button for firing instead of Wiimote B Button. I/We aren't sure how best to convey IR support, but this was what we came up with.
From what I understand this is not a peripheral. It's more like a control in certain game. Because with your logic all Hombrew with a cursor are using this peripheral! In FCE Ultra GX I think it's pretty easy to see that with:
GameCube Controller WiimoteHorizontal.svg Wiimote1.svg + Nunchuck alternative.svg ClassicController.svg Action
GameCube Control Stick or GameCube D-Pad Wii Remote Aim Wii Remote Aim or Nunchuck Control Stick Classic Left Control Stick Zapper aim
Maybe I just don't get the difference! --Crayon 19:26, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, you're right. I think we've got it all backwards... the sensor bar IS a peripheral, and that's what should be used instead. I just started working on it in inkscape but unfortunately I suck at making svg images so far. Flark 20:15, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Flark, maybe this whole template is ill-conceived, and should be scrapped. I think this is more of a controller scheme than a peripheral issue. However, I think Wii Remote Aim needs a replacement image that makes more sense. I don't really know what the current one is meant to be, really. I don't really have an idea of what icon would best represent directional wiimote movement (pointing), however. --Tantric 21:07, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Here we go, SensorBar.svg is up. Now there are 1 images and 2 pages that need to be deleted. (image:WiimoteTargeting.svg, Template:WiimotePointing, and the SensorBar page I accidentally created when I was making Template:SensorBar) As for this discussion page, I don't know if it should be saved or not.
