What is SMB?

What is SMB? Can someone please confirm that this stands for Server Message Block? I would like a link out to wikipedia or similar so that it's clear what is being referred to. Thanks. Mleonard 16:24, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Of course, what else would it stand for? --Tantric 06:18, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Note for Mac users

From the MPlayerWii page:

There is a bug in the libogc that prevents SMB to work with MacOS X out of the box. There is a workaround, edit the /etc/smb.conf file on your mac and add these lines:

[global]
   max xmit = 32768

after this one:

; Site-specific parameters can be added below this comment.

then restart your Mac. --Q-pa 13:04, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Support for connection via hostname?

I'm not sure if this is an issue with Tinysmb itself or with its implementation in the apps that use it, but I can't seem to access my smb share using a host name, only the actual IP. This would be incredibly useful as I am in a dorm and am unable to reliably set up a static IP address, so I have a dynamic dns set up. Inability to connect to a hostname is the one reason I don't use smb in the apps that support it, it's just a pain to reconfigure it every time, so I just end up putting my apps/roms/wads/etc on my sd card.--Qwertymodo 06:08, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Hostname works fine, I added this capability myself. --Tantric 06:17, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Ok, it must just be an issue with the apps themselves, perhaps the hostname is too long (I couldn't enter the whole thing, I figured perhaps the character limit was because only IP addresses were allowed...) I'll take my question to the pages for the apps themselves, thanks.--Qwertymodo 18:45, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
I have been having the same issue, but have not yet tried it with every app. --Q-pa 13:21, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
