Thanks! Well I tried also to figure out why the Template:Languages and Template:Trans don't work properly here when included on a language subpage that is in a different namespace (unless you explicitly type in the page name with the namespace).
You can see this French page at MediaWiki [1] if you edit the line at the bottom {{Languages|Help:Contents}} to just {{Languages}} you will see it still works perfectly, even though it is not in the "main" namespace. Their Template:Languages and Template:Languages/Lang pages are identical to what's here Template:Languages Template:Languages/Lang. (Once Template:Languages has been figured out it can be applied easily to Template:Trans too.)
I made a temporary template and some pages for testing to minimise pollution:
